So often we set our sites on starting something that we have dreamed about and we don’t begin because it seems like it is too big for us. We make all types of excuses…”I’m too young.” ‘I’m too old.” “I don’t have enough money.” “I’m not smart enough.” The lists goes on and on and on. These excuses are dream thieves and what I call progress punks!!
What we have to realize is that all it takes is a start, a beginning. In the book, The Slight Edge, author Jeff Olson calls it, ‘starting with a penny’. Your dream, your success, your skill level, your wonderful relationship, your ideal health, may not be where you dream for it to be but little by little and day by day you can take baby steps to get there.
What is your dream? What is your picture of success personally? Professionally? Where will you be? What will you be doing? Who will be with you?
First, you must have a clear vision of what you want to do, where you want to be and a plan to get there. Several years ago, I came across a book by David C. Campbell titled, If You Don’t Know Where You’re Going, You’ll Probably End Up Somewhere Else. The title of this book alone speaks volumes. Each of us must take the time to get still and get quiet and explore what it is that we want from our lives. Everyone is super busy, caught up in the myth of multi-tasking, tweeting here and facebooking there that we often neglect to stop to check in to our own lives.
Whether it is better health, better relationships, establishing a new career, gaining a new job, creating wealth, starting your own business; no mattter what your dream or goal start to do something small towards that today.
